The colour project is my most recent project. I feel I have never been prouder with a project than I am with this one given the circumstances of having to adjust to online learning. I feel I've overcome and improved in so many more skills and I'm extremely proud of the outcome.
The idea of the following project was to create a garment suitable for the homeless, Emmanuel house to be exact. the goal was to pick 3 'BE' words to which I chose "BE COMFORTABLE, BE DRY and BE DETACHABLE" which are three aspects id like my garment to be. I also chose a concept to base my garment on which was "IDENTITY" I felt this linked in hand in hand with the homeless as there is a misconception that all homeless are the same along with a slight forgotten identity as they have little to no belongings. I wanted to change this concept and help a homeless woman with knowing they have an identity and wanting them to feel comfort and protection in their garment. By briefly working on a stand and with many many design developments I created not only a garment but a collection of garments that will help to bring joy and identity to someone. My final garment had detachable sleeves and length, which made the garment appropriate for all year round, the detachable length doubled as a waterproof blanket once removed meaning it had a double function. I decided to base my lining on patchwork inspired by artists Michael Reeder and Jude Danielson, whom both use identities to create a collage, or a collage to create an identity. Not only this but having a patchwork fleece lining will help to keep the wearer warm and dry quickly. The seams are visible on the outside sleeves to show you should always portray who you are on the inside, on the outside, a feeling of unconventional beauty. |
